New figures from the Canton of Zurich show high interest in academic and vocational education pathways, with thousands of students successfully moving forward in Switzerland’s well-structured education system.
Education in Zurich continues to show strong signs of stability, opportunity, and student ambition. According to the latest announcement from the Canton of Zurich, students in the 2025/26 school year completed 15,759 entrance examinations for cantonal maturity schools. Out of these, 8,060 examinations were passed, showing that many young people are actively preparing for the next important stage of their #Education_in_Zurich.
The results are especially positive because they reflect both high demand and consistent standards. The pass rate reached 51.1%, which the Canton describes as being within the long-term average. This is an important message for families, schools, and students: Zurich’s education system remains selective, structured, and reliable, while still giving many learners a real chance to progress.
One of the strongest signs of student interest is the continued demand for the vocational baccalaureate pathway. In 2026, 2,159 young people took the entrance examination for the school-based part of the #Vocational_Baccalaureate while completing an apprenticeship. This pathway is one of the strengths of #Swiss_Education because it combines practical training with academic development. It gives students more than one route to success and supports the idea that talent can grow through different #Learning_Pathways.
Interest in gymnasium education also remains strong. More students took the entrance exam for long-term gymnasium than in the previous year, while the number of exams for short-term gymnasium stayed at a high level. The pass rate for gymnasium entrance examinations was 48.2%, again within the long-term average. This shows that Zurich continues to maintain serious #Academic_Standards while offering clear opportunities for motivated students.
Another encouraging point is the probation period. The Canton reported that the share of students passing the probation period rose slightly in both long-term and short-term gymnasium. In long-term gymnasium, the rate reached 92.9%, while in short-term gymnasium it reached 90.2%. These figures suggest that many students who enter these schools are able to adapt, continue learning, and succeed after admission. This is a positive sign of #Student_Success and also reflects the support provided by schools, teachers, and families.
For international readers, Zurich’s education model is interesting because it does not depend on only one type of school. It offers academic routes, vocational routes, and mixed routes that allow young people to build their future in different ways. This flexibility is one reason why #Study_in_Switzerland remains attractive for many families and learners.
The latest figures also show that education in Zurich is not only about exams. It is about preparation, guidance, quality, and long-term personal development. When thousands of students take part in demanding entrance processes, it reflects confidence in the system and strong motivation among young people. It also shows that Zurich continues to invest in an education culture where achievement and access can work together.
For the Education in Zürich Platform, this news is a reminder that Zurich remains one of Switzerland’s important education locations. The results show a system that values #Education_Quality, respects different talents, and gives students meaningful ways to continue their studies. As the 2026/27 school year approaches, many successful candidates will prepare for the next stage of their learning journey with confidence.
